Keep Tiptap if you are building your own rich-text editor and want a framework of extensions to shape it. Use Runstamp when your users open Word files and expect the same pages back, without a paid plan for page layout.
Comparison at a glance
| Tiptap with DOCX conversion | Runstamp editor | |
|---|---|---|
| Page layout | Page-based layouts on Team, Business and Enterprise; Team is $149 a month billed yearly, $179 monthly | In the free editor, Apache-2.0 |
| DOCX round-trip | Export "exports what the editor currently contains, not what the original source document had" | Saves the original .docx back with only the edits changed |
| Without page layout | "page breaks are ignored", "no concept of page boundaries" | Pages always on |
| Word page layout | No published comparison with Word | Same page count as Microsoft Word on 82 of 82 test documents; 99.6% of page breaks and 97.8% of line breaks in place |

What Tiptap's DOCX path does
Tiptap's conversion overview says import output depends on the installed extensions: "What renders in your editor depends on which extensions you have installed." Without the Pages extension, headers, footers and page breaks have nowhere to render. Export writes the editor's content, so anything the extensions did not model is not in the exported file. Tiptap's pricing page lists page-based layouts on Team, Business and Enterprise, not on Start.
What changes with Runstamp
The Runstamp editor is a Word editor, not a framework you assemble one from. It reads the whole .docx, lays out pages the way Word does, and writes the same file back with only the user's edits changed, so parts it does not edit are kept as they were. Page layout is in the free package; editor-pro adds suggest mode, comments, live rooms and version history for $99 a month per app plus applicable sales tax.
When to keep Tiptap
Keep it if your documents are your own rich-text format and .docx is an occasional export. Keep it if you need its extension ecosystem more than Word's pages.
